Evie and I have been reading
The Chronicles of Narnia for a couple of years, starting in the order they were written, not that silly chronological order they published several years ago. When we got to
A Horse and His Boy, the language got a little above her head so we put the series on hold and now are reading
The Magician's Nephew. I had never read that one before, so it was fun for me to read too. In
The Magician's Nephew, you learn the origin of the land of Narnia, and encounter the White Witch, but you don't know that it's the White Witch until later, though you probably have your suspicions upfront. Evie, being 7, did not have suspicions upfront and when we got to the part where it is explicitly revealed that the Queen from the other world is indeed the White Witch, Evie stopped me and said, "Oh, Mama! It's the White Witch!" with such an air of discovery and cleverness. I was very proud of her. Then, later, a lion comes and when she realized it was Aslan, Evie grabbed my arm and squealed, "Aslan! Oh, Mama, thank you so much for reading this to me!" She takes so much delight in these stories.
Saturday she started back to ballet. She has moved up to the white leotard group and has to wear her hair in a bun every week, instead of a pony tail, so she feels (and looks) very grown up.
This is the math homework she is doing now. I had to get her to explain the circles for me....
