10 Months Old

Sweet Evie is 10 months old today.  Today also happened to be one of the first days that it has actually felt like Spring, so we celebrated by hanging out in the yard and letting Evie see and feel grass.  It's her first time to do this because she was born during a hot, hot summer, and I was too afraid to let her explore the yard in the fall, plus she was only 4 months old.  And then winter came and stuck around FOR.EVER. so we're just now getting into weather that doesn't make me want to curl up with a heat blanket and a hot drink.  Here are some pictures from our afternoon, and also Evie's trip to the park yesterday evening, which was her first time on a swing:

And here she is looking sweet in her 12 month size dress.  We had to switch her wardrobe over this week to the 12 month stuff.  There are still some 9 month things she can fit into, but especially when she wears cloth diapers, the 9 month pants just don't work anymore.

This morning she had a big girl breakfast.  No purees.  She had eggs (with Dr. Aunt Aimee's blessing last week, we've lifted the restriction on eggs) and strawberries.  I turned the plate toward her so she could reach either one and she went straight for the eggs.  So eventually I turned the strawberries toward her, and she ate one bite, then reached for the eggs again.  I thought it was a fluke, so I readjusted the plate so she could reach both.  Again, the eggs won.  Then turned the plate so the eggs were hard to reach.  But she went for them again, reaching over the strawberries.  I was surprised by that.

She's also learning to drink water from a sippy cup, and she's eating banana straight from the peel.  This girl is growing and getting so independent.

She gets books in the mail through a few different programs, and there's one that arrived a few days ago that Seth read to her this afternoon, and I absolutely lost it and cried.  (How many times have I thought the words that are bolded.)

Dear one, Cherished one, Loved one,
You make the world beautiful.
The sun rises for you, the earth welcomes you.
You make the world beautiful.

We thought we knew what love was
Until the day we held you.
We thought we knew what life was
Until the day we kissed you.

You are sacred.  You are precious.
You are our responsibility and the world's future.

We will grow together.  We will learn together.
We will laugh together.  We will feast together.
Sweet one, Curl up and sleep.
All you have to do is grow.
You've already made our lives complete.

You are a child of the universe.
Walk gently.  Walk true.
Share your gifts with the world.
Share your dreams with the world.
Share you light with the world.
Share you love with the world.

Your life is a song.  We shall sing together.
Your life is a story.  We shall tell together.

For someone so small, you have changed our lives.
For someone so small, you have changed our world.
You have changed us all
Forever.

Thank God for my precious girl...
