Summer Kick Off

School is out and we have kicked off summer!  Last Wednesday was the 19th anniversary of our first date, so Evie joined us for an impromptu dinner date at a the Rendezvous, which is a famous restaurant I'd never been to before, despite being in Memphis for most of my life.

On Thursday and Friday, Evie served duty on the Safety Patrol.  The 5th graders who are usually patrolling were busy with their promotion activities, so the 4th graders who are on the Patrol for next year filled in.  This was a couple of days after the shooting at Robb Elementary, and I got really choked up sending her to school when the parents of 4th graders at that school had their precious children taken away from them.

Saturday, we left to go to Nashville for the wedding of a friend of mine from grad school.  We started our trip out with a trip to Buca di Beppo which was a favorite of mine in California.  Then we went to an Escape Room which had a runaway train theme and lots of great puzzles.  Evie had several good "gets".  We checked in to our hotel and enjoyed the swimming pool, then had dinner at a German restaurant.

Sunday morning we went to Christ Church Cathedral so I could show Evie the huge altar and the pulpit that was carved by my great-great-great grandfather, leading a team of carvers.  We are going to his hometown in Switzerland next week, so I thought it was a perfect time to show this to her.

Then we went to the Opryland Hotel which we've never been to before, and took their riverboat ride.

The wedding was that afternoon and was a beautiful celebration of love.

Monday we hit the pool again before we checked out of our hotel and then had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe before we headed out of town.

When we got back home, we set up Evie's new swimming pool and had a cook out in the backyard.  It was a great Memorial Day weekend.

Yesterday, Evie started her first camp of the summer at our local nature center where she's attended camp before.  She loves learning about animals, and was especially glad that her group is made of 8 girls and only 2 boys - she keeps getting classes where she's one of a handful of girls so this is a nice change.

Last night we had dinner with Granna, Grannadaddy, Kathy, and Rickie in early celebration of Evie's birthday.  I made pasta and two different sauces, meatballs, and shrimp, and we have brownie sundaes for dessert.  I love that we can have celebrations with family so easily - it's so wonderful to be together.
