This week has been one of many successes for Evie and I am so very proud of the young lady she is. She formally qualified for the gifted program at her school, which she tested into in 1st grade, but she's now had the full evaluation and meets state criteria for the gifted program. We had her meeting on Thursday to formalize everything and her CLUE teacher and main classroom teacher said how thoughtful she is, how creative she is. For example, she had a light bulb moment with Math one day when she realized she could work the problem a different way and arrive at the same solution. She tested it out a few more times and then asked her teacher if it was okay for her to work the problems that way because it made more sense to her. I'm not surprised that she has made it into CLUE officially, but I am very proud, and that means that if she keeps those grades up, she'll be in the honors program automatically at middle school and high school, and qualify to take AP classes.
She also is officially going to be inducted into the National Elementary Honors Society, which I didn't even know existed until a few months ago. To qualify, students have to prove exceptionalism in four areas: scholarship, responsibility, service, and leadership. This feeds into the National Junior Honors Society and National Honors Society at the middle and high school levels respectively, so it's a big deal, and I think she said only 20 4th graders made it in.
And she was also recommended by her teacher to become a member of the safety patrol for next year, which she's been saying she wanted to do. Safety patrol comes to school early and stays late and helps students cross the street safely or make sure they're at the right door for entry. She had said she was going to ask her teacher how to become a member, but she never did, so when she brought home the paper saying she had been nominated, she started jumping up and down with excitement.
Evie's school had a fundraiser this week where the kids got to dress up in different themes. Here she is on pajama day.
Evie has been talking about April Fools jokes all year and I am not a fan of April Fools pranks, so when Seth told me that Evie had concocted a prank that required me to "go to bed" early, I was not amused. But I was actually amused the next morning when I realized the eggs were staring back at me. They put googly eyes on various items in the fridge.
Yesterday was Seth's birthday, so Evie helped me decorate the annual banana pudding cream pie.

Evie, We are so proud of your accomplishments, but we are not surprised too much because you are such a kind, loving person, who tries to keep harmony, do the right things, be prepared, and so many more great qualities. Congratulations on becoming a member of the Honor Society, on being fully admitted to the gifted program, and for becoming a member of the Safety Patrol! What a special week you have had! Love, Granna
