Sick Again

Well, we just can't seem to stay well...  Saturday morning Evie went to theatre class with no problems, but when I picked her up, she seemed extra grouchy.  We drove to the florist where I picked up the flower arrangement I ordered in memory of Grandma (who would have been 90 on Sunday), and while we were in the flower shop, Evie just seemed to start fading.  I offered to get her some food, but she didn't want anything and went immediately for a nap once we got home.  She got up on her own and seemed fine, but she had a low fever.  I gave her some medicine.  Seth and I were supposed to go out to dinner and a movie and I texted Granna what was going on.  We agreed we could try having her go spend the night as planned but that I would leave my phone on vibrate so I could get texts if she got worse.  About halfway through the movie, Granna reported that Evie's fever had climbed.  So we decided after the movie to come get her even though she told Granna, "I want to stick with you."  By the time we got there, she was at 103.4.  It was almost time for her next dose, so when I got her home I gave her that and then started texting Aimee (who is a pediatrician) and Tia (who is a pediatric nurse) to get their opinions on when I should start to worry based on temp alone.  She had no other symptoms beyond a dry cough.

Once we were sure the medicine was working and her temperature was going down, we got some sleep.  She was still feverish in the morning and wouldn't have been going to church anyway, but she was still pretty lethargic.  I went to church and when I got home, she was up on the couch, playing a video game with Seth so she was feeling some better.  She was fever free by the afternoon and stayed that way Monday, but she was still coughing and seemed run down.  Tuesday she spent the day at my parents' house because I wasn't sure she had the stamina to get through a day at school.

Edison cuddles and laptop privileges made up for illness in some regard.

Wednesday she went back to school and we were back to normal.  Tonight we went to the church for Game Night and she was able to keep up with the energy of the rest of the kids there so I feel like she's turned a corner and maybe we'll have a weekend without illness for a change!

I have to brag on her academics.  They recently did a standardized test and Evie scored in the 96th percentile for reading and 95th for math.  I'm especially proud of her math skills because she doesn't get a lot of work from us in that regard; we read chapter books together every day, but we don't exactly do math facts or processes, so that's all her retention from school.
