Bo Peep

We had a bit of an eventful week.  Evie was sick with a stomach bug that seems to have hit several people in our church, so she had to miss two days of school.  She was very concerned about whether this would be an excused absence or not and it took quite a few times for my assurances to kick in.  She's a very conscientious student.

Our friend Dan sent Evie a little special something.  He is a game designer and he turned her into a fairy for one of his games, and he sent her the art he drew.  This perked her up after spending a day getting sick.

Fortunately she was recovered by Wednesday and so we had dinner at my parents' house that night.  Granna, being the magical person she is, thought that Evie would enjoy decorating some Halloween cookies.

Of course, Thursday was Halloween, a favorite holiday for many kids.  Evie went as Bo Peep this year.  We started early with a trip to see Grandma Jeanne who has been in the hospital.  My magical mother had left a little treat bag at the hospital for Grandma Jeanne to give Evie when she came by.  Then we stopped by my parents' house where, again, my magical mother had a special treat bag waiting for Evie, complete with hot chocolate.

Then we headed back home and when Seth got home we went out because it was very cold and we knew we wouldn't last too long.

Evie was really excited when she found that a lot of people had just left candy outside with notes saying to help yourself.  This is our neighbor's house and Evie excitedly read the note, saying, "It says I can take two or three! Can I have three?"  She's such a good kid.

We trick-or-treated in the neighborhood until it got dark.  One house we went to belonged to a classmate from last year, August.  Evie was very excited to go to his house and she asked for him.  His mother reported that August was also out trick-or-treating and Evie said, "Well... tell him I stopped by."

When we got back home we decided to move forward with our pumpkin carving and Evie also warmed up with that packet of hot chocolate from Granna's treat bag.

Then, as is my tradition for every Halloween, we watched the Disney animated movie Ichabod Crane and then headed to bed.

Today, I got to go by Evie's school to have lunch with her.  I always enjoy this because it makes her feel so special and because it's nice to get to meet her school friends.  She hasn't really found a best friend in this class, but she has several kids she is fond of.
