Theatre and Palm Sunday

We've had a pretty good week.  The weekdays were pretty much business as usual.  Evie is doing well in school and getting better and better at reading and math.  It's hard to believe she'll be leaving the school and classroom she's been in and teacher she's been with for 3 years...

Saturday, we went to see James and the Giant Peach, which was a musical adaptation of the book by Roald Dahl.  Evie's teacher, Ms. Jan, read the book to their class earlier this year, and Evie and I had already read it last summer, so she was pretty familiar with the story.  She had a fun time watching the puppetry and over-the-top acting that is so integral to children's theatre.  It was a pretty good production from my perspective too.

Sunday was Palm Sunday, so Evie and the other children at church led the procession by waving palm branches.  She's wearing the same dress she wore last year and it's amazing how much she's grown!

Sunday night, Evie helped me with dinner by taking the herb leaves off of their stems.  She loves helping out in the kitchen.

Monday night, we dyed Easter eggs.  It's amazing how quickly a 5-year-old can tear through 18 eggs!

Siouxsie, our nearly 1 year old poodle, was spayed last Friday and she's been having to be a little more sedate as she recovers.  This is hard for Evie to accept because they're used to chasing each other around the house, playing tug, and generally getting into mischief together.  Siouxsie has to relax until next Wednesday when she goes in for her re-check, so poor Evie will have to make do with just petting her.  Herbie continues to be loved on in his usual way.  Evie's very good with him and guides him around the house by clapping (he's blind now).  She's a good little pet owner and told me that she might like to be a vet/zookeeper when she grows up.
