This weekend, Evie and I celebrated Mother's Day by taking Granna to dinner and to see Your Arm's Too Short to Box with God. We had a really good time at both dinner and the theatre. Then on Mother's Day itself, Evie allowed me to introduce her to The Golden Girls and she absolutely loved it, which makes me happy because it's one of my favorite shows of all time.
At the theatre
She's been so happy since we took her out of school and started home schooling her. She will just come up and start hugging us and saying "I love you", then she'll say, "I'm just in a lovey-dovey mood." It's so sweet.
Big happenings this week in jiu jitsu - she got her first stripe! In order to get a stripe, you have to learn a particular combo/set of skills and then you have to perform that in front of the teacher. Stripe tests only happen about once every 4-5 weeks, and if you don't stripe, then you keep working on those skills under you can pass. Once you get what would be your third stripe, you actually go up to the next belt color. Or at least, this is what I've picked up. She was very nervous about this stripe test because a few weeks ago when she was able to go back to jiu jitsu after having injured her growth plate in her wrist, she felt very lost in the combos they were teaching for competition. She didn't do well with those, understandably since she had been out for a while due to the wrist injury. So she was nervous she wouldn't do well with the stripe test either. She didn't really want to go out onto the mat for class because of her nerves, but when the instructor called the kids forward, she did go. They spent some time reviewing the combo before having the kids test, and of course, she did amazing (video below). She got her first stripe and she was so visibly proud of herself! I'm really loving everything that jiu jitsu is teaching her. They spent a while reminding kids before their test that if they don't stripe, it doesn't mean failure, it just means you come back and keep learning.
