Staying Up til Midnight, and Taking Care of Horses

After a beautiful Christmas time, we are finishing up winter break - it's back to school tomorrow.  Evie has had a really refreshing and rejuvenating break.  This week was Grannadaddy's birthday, so we went to Granna and Grannadaddy's house for dinner and marble cake.

Celebrating Grannadaddy's birthday

New Year's Eve, Evie stayed up with me til after midnight (her first night to ring in the new year!) while we chatted with my high school friends.  We (my high school friends) used to celebrate in person, but since 2020, we've pretty much just zoomed.

Happy New Year!

Lydia, a friend from church who is almost 6 years old, has been asking for a long time to come spend the night at our house, so we made that happen this week.

Evie and Lydia at church on Sunday, on the back row while I ushered. The girls did a great job of getting along.  At 9pm, I told them it was time to settle down and go to bed and Evie's response was, "Mama, you always told me the point of a slumber party was to get to stay up late and talk with your friends."  Touche.

It was Edison's 4th birthday on January 1, so the girls gave him a puppiccino and sang happy birthday.

Evie's continuing with horseback riding lessons, and I learn something every time I go with her.  She impresses me so much with how quickly she has started taking charge of these animals, and I (who have no experience with horses) can see her confidence building, which is the whole reason I wanted her to start doing horsemanship.

Here's some video of how she has to care for them before taking them out for the ride - and this is the part she loves the most.
