8 Years Old

Well, we now have an 8-year-old!  It has been strange, celebrating birthdays during a pandemic, but we do what we can...  On her birthday, Seth and I usually wake up early and sneak into her room, singing "Happy Birthday" to her, but this year, she beat us to being awake and she came into our room as we were getting up, so we sang to her when she walked in.  Then we took her outside for a surprise: we hired a company to come put a "Happy Birthday, Evie" sign in our yard.  She walked down to the sidewalk to look at it, gasped, and said, "You did this for me?"  It was a cute moment.

We opened some presents and had breakfast on the deck.  She requested chocolate chocolate chip muffins.  Then we hung out and played with some of the stuff she got until it was time for me to go get the cake, and since we haven't really eaten restaurant food since the pandemic started, I picked up burgers from her favorite restaurant. 

At 3, we got on a video chat with Grannadaddy, Addie, Will, Ryan, Jill, and Eric to play Jackbox, which was the only thing Evie requested specifically for here birthday.  Granna and Grannadaddy and Kathy and Rickie came over for dinner and cake.  We ate outside on the deck, keeping social distance rules as much as possible.

All in all, I'd say she had a good birthday.

Our week has been chill, just hanging out at home.  Evie is enjoying playing with her stuff from her birthday, including her new Rapunzel bow and arrow.

She also helped me stain the deck this week.

Today, of course, is my birthday, and Evie woke ME up singing "Happy Birthday", cause she is as sentimental as her mama.
