Tuesday was Evie's last day of school. She's now finished the middle year of Montessori and will be in Kindergarten in the fall! In some ways, that's hard to believe, and in others it seems very appropriate, because she has learned so much!
Last day of school. She looks so much like Seth here to me.
Wednesday, the kids from her school were invited to the zoo. Not as a field trip, but just as an outing. We met up with her best friend Sasha and Sasha's mother and they enjoyed seeing the animals and adventuring together.

Thursday, we woke up at 3 am and Grannadaddy came to get us at 4 am to catch our 5:30 am flight to Portland via Chicago. Evie handled her 3:30 am wake up call pretty well and didn't sleep at all on the planes. At one point, I handed her the safety information card and she was asking me about the picture where the people are bracing themselves against the seats in front of them, like you would for a crash landing. I explained that that's what you do if the plane is landed suddenly. So as we made our landing in Chicago, I looked over and Evie was in the crash landing position, trying to stretch her little arms out to the seat in front of her. I laughed so hard.
We got our rental car and ate some lunch. Evie was interested in all the scenery, commenting on all the different trees and flowers. At one point she said, "I wish Desmond was here." I asked her why. She said, "Because I want to share all this with him." I think she actually does get what love is all about.
We headed to Aunt Jill's house where Evie was most fascinated by Jill's dog, Lola. We visited for a while and then had to take naps because - well - obviously we'd been up too long. We got up for dinner and then accompanied Aunt Jill and Aunt Maddie to the grocery store, stopping to pick up Grammy along the way. We helped shop for some food for the rehearsal dinner and then headed back to Jill's house. Evie was ready for bed when we got back, and she did great falling asleep alone in a new place.
Friday, we had breakfast just the three of us and then Evie and I met up with Jill, Grammy, Maddie, and Grandma Pat, and some of Jill's other friends and family for a mani/pedi. It was Evie's first mani/pedi, which was appropriate because Jill took me for my first mani/pedi too.

We went back to Jill's house and caught a nap before going to the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. The place was gorgeous and dinner was delightful!
Checking out the scenery at the wedding site
Evie had a tooth coming loose and she just couldn't stop wiggling it. I really didn't want her to lose another one because she really shouldn't be losing a lower lateral incisor this early, and also because I didn't want her to be snaggle-toothed at the wedding. She stopped eating her dinner because the tooth was bothering her so much, and it was sticking out straight, so at that point, I changed to hoping that it would come out before the wedding. She asked me what was for dessert, which was cannoli, and she lamented that there was no ice cream. As we were leaving (pretty late), Evie asked Grammy if she was staying there and Grammy told her she was. Evie said, "It's kind weird, being here without any ice cream." The love of ice cream is strong with this one. Evie fell asleep in the car on the way back after she had a very amusing conversation with Jill's dad, Martin.
At 2:20 am, Evie woke Seth up and told him she'd lost her tooth. She was wailing and crying about it, which startled Seth and him being startled startled her so everyone was freaked out. I told them both to calm down and turned on my flashlight so we could look for the tooth. We found it lying on the air mattress and I told her that since it was after midnight, the tooth fairy wouldn't be coming until the next night. We all got back to sleep without too much fuss.
Saturday morning we stopped at the bank. I meant to bring some gold dollars with us in case she lost another tooth, because it was already loose before we left, but I forgot them. The only bank open didn't have any gold dollars, but they did have a Canadian toonie, so I took that one. We went to get breakfast and run some other errands. We tried to go to this neat park that Jill had told us about, but by the time we got there, we didn't have too much time and felt like it would be silly to pay the admission fee to only get to be there for an hour. Plus Evie had a meltdown about 5 minutes after getting there, so we decided to go home. She fell asleep on the way to Jill's which was good, except she couldn't get back to sleep after we got to the house. Seth and I got ready and then made the drive up to the wedding site, which gave Evie another 45 minute nap on the way. We got Evie dressed and she went to get her hair done and then it was a matter of waiting until the ceremony began. We enjoyed visiting with people and seeing Jill in her dress. I cried. I'm a softie now.

I'm usually the one taking the pictures, so I don't have one of me and Evie together... but I was there too!

Evie couldn't wait to talk to Uncle Eric and Aunt Jill after the ceremony. She was beside herself to know what their last name is.
And to get in hugs and kisses
We stayed until after 11 partying and then drove home. Evie fell asleep on the way and went straight to bed once we got to Jill and Eric's house. Sunday morning, Evie was thrilled to discover her Canadian toonie under her pillow. We got baths and breakfast and headed to the coast. We wanted to show Evie the Oregon Coast Aquarium because we remembered what a good time she had there when she was two. We took the scenic route and got to Newport about 1 pm so we ate lunch at Mo's first.
Begging Daddy for oysters - which she enjoyed!
After lunch, we headed to the aquarium which was not as fantastic as Seth and I had remembered, but Evie seemed to enjoy it. Then when went to Driftwood Beach. Evie wanted to build a sand castle, even though that's somewhat difficult to do with that kind of sand. So she settled for covering her feet in it and gathering shells. The weather had turned a little cold and rainy by that point, so we didn't stay too long, and we headed down to Gram's place.

When we got to Gram's property, we ran into a bit of a snag in getting the key. Evie was very patient while we tried to resolve the problem. She was interested in the jack rabbits and deer, and wanted to know where the cows next door had gone to. We eventually abandoned the key project for the night and decided to get a hotel room after dinner. It was 9:30 pm when we sat down to eat and after 11 before we actually went to bed. Evie'd been waking up whenever the sun came up, so I knew she needed a good night's sleep. Since the hotel had great blackout curtains, we got it! She didn't wake up until 8:30 am this morning and we were all glad for the chance to sleep in after a few long days in a row.
Today we had breakfast and visited Grampa before setting out for Wildlife Safari. Grampa was thrilled to see us and Evie never ceases to amaze me with how well she deals with people. She chatted with Grampa, who she hasn't seen in nearly 2 years, without any hesitation, and also chatted with some of the other residents of the nursing facility. She's such an amazing kid.

Feeding deer at Wildlife Safari - her favorite thing there
We rode around Wildlife Safari, fed the deer from our car, and then went into their walk around zoo. Evie played on their playground some, which she needed to do after a long day in the car yesterday, and then we rode the train and went to get some lunch. Back to the nursing facility to visit Grampa and drop off some supplies and pictures for him and then we went back to Gram's property where we were able to get in. Evie seemed to remember some parts of the house and had a good time playing with the toys. We went back into town for another visit with Grampa and dinner and are back at Gram's for the night before we head to Yakima tomorrow.
Evie's been talking a lot about what she saw at Aunt Jill and Uncle Eric's wedding and asking about why certain things were done. One of the funniest things was during Jill and Eric's first dance, Eric's great aunt came up and pinned money to them (a little prematurely) and Evie was asking why she did that. We explained that at some weddings, they have dances where people pin money to the bride and groom for good luck and to start them out with a gift. She decided she and Desmond will be having that dance at their wedding.
