Oregon Part 2

Well, we are certainly a traveling family this summer!  We stayed in Oregon until Wednesday.  Saturday Seth, Evie, and I took a day trip to the coast.  We drove up from Gram's house to Newport, OR, traveling along US 101 which had some beautiful scenery.  It's wonderful to look out over the Pacific Ocean in all its vastness.  When we got to Newport we had a nice lunch at a local market-type place and then went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium on a whim.  We just happened to see a sign for it and decided to check it out and it turned out to be one of the best activities we've ever done with Evie.  They had a ton of toddler-friendly activities: a sandbox, a bridge over one of the exhibits to look down on the fish, a fishing boat with toy poles, toy fish, and a cash register/market set up so you could pretend to catch the fish and bring them for sale - all kinds of things.  She had a great time and didn't want to leave, but of course we had to.

We went over to a beach so we could have the experience of putting our feet in the sand.  Evie wanted to go into the water - I guess she thought it would be like the water at the beach at New Smyrna, FL which was warm and wonderful.  The water at the Pacific is quite cold so I didn't expect her to want to stay in it but she didn't seem to mind.  We let her play in the water for as long as we could stand it ourselves and then we drove back to Gram's.

Sunday through Tuesday we visited with Gram, Parry, and Grampa.  Evie was happy to snuggle with Gram and show her how to use the iPad.  She kept bringing things to Parry, as she tends to when she likes you.  And she enjoyed getting to see Grampa when we went to visit - she calls him "PaDa".

Evie demonstrated that she can count to 5 by herself while we were visiting Grampa.  She was staring at the fish tank and started counting the fish and counting all the way up to 5!  My jaw dropped lower and lower with each number.  I had no idea she was getting that familiar with the numbers.

We had a wonderful time visiting our Oregon family and were sad to leave.  Wednesday we left at 7:30 and drove up to Portland to catch our flight.  We were in the back row which actually turned out to be good for us since we had a long layover and didn't have to worry about getting off the plane quickly to make the connection in Houston.  Evie did great on the flight and fell asleep for the last hour of it or so.  We got a bite to eat while we waited for the next plane to board and she also enjoyed being pulled around the airport on her Trunkie (pics to come).  She kept telling all the waiting passengers hi and bye as she made her rounds, and she charmed everyone.

The flight to Houston was mostly uneventful though she was obviously sleepy toward the end.  I changed her into pjs when we landed and we were picked up by Grannadaddy.  We gave her a little while to run some energy off when we got home and then tried to go night night, but after sleeping in the same room as me and Seth for a week and being used to having us there, she had a hard time with being alone in her new big girl bed.  I think she may have spent part of the night lying on the floor next to the door and part of the morning in the rocking chair.

She didn't sleep for her nap yesterday either when we tried to have her go to bed in her room.  She stayed up and played for 3 hours instead even though we told her often to go lie down.  So she ended up falling asleep when we went to dinner with Matt and Cristal instead.  We were seated at a large booth so I just laid her down on the bench and she snoozed through the whole meal.

Today we are leaving for Pensacola.  We are trying to cram in all the traveling and fun we can before Seth starts law school.  No new states for Evie on this trip, though she did gain Texas on our return from Oregon, bringing her state total up to 11.  No pics again, but I think by next week I'll have my desktop functioning at home so I can finally provide some visual documentation of all the wonderful things we've had going on this summer.

Edit to add: Pictures!
So proud of her own climb on this frog at the Oregon Coast Aquarium

What a ham

This little blonde girl came up and started playing so nicely with Evie.  They had a good time together.

Then she played with these kids and the stuffed sea creatures

Somewhat of an attempt to recreate our pictures from last year

The neighbors had cows and Evie really enjoyed watching us feed them apples from the orchard.  She dubbed this big black one as "Mama Cow" and wanted to try to feed her hay.  We let her attempt it (highly supervised), but she got freaked out at the cow's tongue (I did too!)

Look at these long lashes!  Crashed on the return flight home.

Killing time in the Houston airport by riding her trunkie
