Fun Outside

Monday was Memorial Day, which meant a day off of school and work for all of us.  We took it pretty easy for the day, and then in the evening, we went to church for an outdoor event.  They had games for the kids, and Evie got to play with her friends.  It was a nice way to kick off what feels like the summer season, even though we actually have 3 more weeks of school.

Evie's getting ready for the sack race.

Tuesday, we had dinner with my parents, per usual, and Mom had made a chocolate pie and saved the pans for Evie and Grannadady to "clean up".

Yesterday, Evie went back in to school in person for only the 5th time since March 13, 2020.  They had field day so there was a lot of outdoor time.  I got to go for it and enjoyed watching Evie play with kids again.  We had pizza and popsicles and enjoyed celebrating the end of the school year.

Yesterday afternoon, Seth and I hung a swing we got Evie for her birthday.  We put it in the dogwood tree in the backyard and decided we would wait until Evie discovered it to tell her.  Well by this morning we couldn't stay quiet so we told her one of her birthday presents was in the yard.  It was awesome watching her find it.

She spent a while swinging and then we went to get donuts.  Then I took Evie for her first horseback riding experience at the local stables.  We did a half hour ride and I was really proud of how Evie overcame her nervousness and got on the horse, literally, despite her fears.  She really enjoyed the ride and already wants to go again.  It helps that we saw a couple of deer on our ride.

After riding, we came home and got to chat with Jill, Eric, and baby Eleanor for a bit and then went to see Kathy, Rickie, and a special surprise guest, Tia.  We had dinner together, worked a puzzle, decorated and consumed a fruit pizza, and went on a walk.

It has been a very, very good day.  Now I'm off to read to my little girl for her last night as an 8 year old.
